The BOLD social actions in Greece

The BOLD social actions in Greece

By acknowledging the need for collective action taking in tackling pressing societal challenges, we adopt social action as an effective way to bring together people from different socio-linguistic and cultural backgrounds for a social cause.

In this spirit, our managing director, Katerina Zourou, ideated the BOLD social actions in Greece, running in the country’s 2 biggest cities, Athens and Thessaloniki, from March to May 2025! Keep reading our article to find out how our Web2Learn team made of Katerina Zourou, Stefania Oikonomou and Korina Defteraiou, is transforming the skills and behaviours of university students (future educators) through social action!

As co-initiators of the BOLD project and ideators of the social actions in Greece, at Web2Learn we are very proud to contemplate and share with you their unique achievements!

The BOLD social action in Athens 🌟

In this action, university students of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) collaborate with students of migrant and refugee background through comics making! By using comics as a bridge to linguistic and cultural differences, this social action aims to socially-empower participants through the development of social, creative and communication skills.

This social action is organised by Web2Learn, in collaboration with Ms Eleni Sella and Ms Maria Rompopoulou from the Faculty of Turkish and Modern Asian studies at NKUA, the 4th Sivitanidios VET School and Athens Comics Library!

All 4 on-site workshops have been completed. Specifically:

On March 18, the 1st workshop took place at the premises of the 4th Sivitanidios VET School in Athens. High school students and university students were divided into five groups, they brainstormed ideas, shaping their themes, characters, settings, and plots for the comics they will develop. Through their stories, they will highlight social issues, humorous contrasts, and unexpected twists—where imagination takes center stage! 🎭💡

On March 28, the 2nd workshop took place! In this one, ream representatives stepped up to present each group’s progress so far, while roles and tasks were distributed among members, setting the stage for full-on comic creation mode!

On April 8, the 3rd workshop was organised. This time, teams moved on with producing the drawings and texts for their comics! Last advices from Olia Dakogianni, the Athens Comics Library educator, were given.

On April 29, teams finalized and delivered their comics!

The BOLD social action in Thessaloniki 🌟

In this social action, we are very happy to work with a fantastic group of university students of the Faculty of English Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and Deaf youth who joined forces to advocate for accessibility in health services! Out of this action, participants will create and record videos in Greek and International Sign Language on topics related to easing Deaf citizens’ access to health services!

Specifically, this action is designed by Web2Learn and it’s implemented in collaboration with Ms Marina Mattheoudakis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Ms Evi Kyritsi (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and the Association of the Deaf of Northern Greece (EKVE).

By now, 3 of the 4 workshops have been carried out on-site, at the premised of the Aristotle University. Precisely:

On March 26, the 1 introductory workshop took place! Here, university students and Deaf citizens met with each other and engaged in a fruitful and insightful group discussion on the barriers Deaf citizens face when accessing health services.

Powered by the first workshop, in the 2nd one, on April 9, participants were divided into teams and started brainstorming on the scenario of their videos. Equipped with a script template, the teams keep working on their ideas which will be video-recorded in the forthcoming weeks.

On May 7, the teams recorded their videos which are now being edited to ensure their high quality and accessibility to Deaf people.
