Web2Learn’s application for a citizen science action in the island of Limnos called “AirLimnos” has been selected through the open call issued by the CitiObs project.
For its 6-month project, Web2Learn has received air quality sensors from the CitiObs project that have been installed in 3 Secondary Schools in Limnos.
AirLimnos is a Web2Learn initiative that aims to enhance local communities’ participation in research and advocacy on air quality! Through AirLimnos, air quality sensors have been installed in 3 Secondary Schools in Myrina, Moudros and Livadohori.
In this new project, Web2Learn collaborates with the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) that provides the technical expertise -sensors’ installment and connection to the national database “https://air-quality.gr/”.
The initiative’s scope is twofold: a) enhance awareness and skills, as well as b) participation of Limnos’ school community in scientific research with a social purpose.
Specifically, through AirLimnos, Web2Learn received from the CitiObs project air quality sensors which have been installed in three Secondary schools of the island. The data collected through the sensors enrich the national repository on air quality: https://air-quality.gr.
The educational part of the project began on April 1st, 2025, through on-site workshops designed and carried out by Web2Learn in collaboration with the National Observatory of Athens. In only 1 day, more than 200 students participated at these workshops and learned about citizen science and its value for monitoring air quality.
