About mapping air quality

Could local communities in Limnos take the lead in driving environmental resilience? How can educational innovation and citizen engagement bring real change to the island?

AirLimnos project maps and monitors air quality in Limnos, with the participation of citizens and students. For this purpose, air pollution sensors have been installed in areas with different urban densities, such as Myrina, Moudros, and Livadochori.

Hence, AirLimnos promotes awareness, education, and active participation of citizens in the process of monitoring and protecting air quality on the island.

About fighting marine pollution

Could collecting plastic on our shores become the start of a community-wide environmental shift? How does playful learning turn clean-up actions into tools for lasting change?

This initiative is part of the Erasmus project CROSSING, with the Nautical Club Limnos participating in one of the largest citizen science efforts against plastic pollution through the WWF Greece “Adopt a Beach” action.

The primary goal is to systematically collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data on coastal and plastic pollution. The aim is to identify and categorize waste materials, with the long-term goal of reducing and eventually eliminating plastic pollution from our environment.

About tackling water scarcity

How does a remote local community, made of school and higher educations students, as well as adults, engage in citizen science actions for water scarcity? What is the role of education in enhancing citizen participation and advocacy?

In the framework of the citizen science actions of the Erasmus+ Acting4Water project (Tackling water scarcity by using advanced technologies in business-academia-society cooperation, 2023–2026), students in Limnos were invited to take part in a series of experiential visits to the Laboratory of Advanced Functional Materials and Nanotechnology of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of the Aegean.
