Our CAELUM action with libraries: Open audiobooks for print-disabled learners!<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Since February 2026, we have ideated and implemented a meaningful initiative dedicated to improving access to knowledge for print-disabled learners through the creation of open audiobooks, in collaboration with the Library of Panteion University.<\/p>\n

The action began with an orientation workshop that brought together more than 70 participants both onsite and online, launching a collaborative effort focused on accessibility, inclusion, and open knowledge. Since then, volunteers and libraries have worked together to support the production of accessible educational and literary material for print-disabled communities.<\/p>\n

The impact of the initiative has already been significant:

\u25aa\ufe0f 684 pages recorded
\u25aa\ufe0f Participation from 4 Greek academic libraries<\/p>\n

In addition to audiobook recording activities, we organised a series of collaborative workshops focused on the development of sustainability and action plans to ensure the continuation and adoption of similar initiatives beyond the project\u2019s duration. Representatives from academic and public libraries explored practical ways to strengthen long-term collaboration and community-driven approaches for accessible education and culture.<\/p>\n

The initiative highlighted the important role that libraries, volunteers, and open science practices can play in fostering inclusion and equal access to knowledge for vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n

The action is led by Katerina Zourou and Korina Defteraiou at Web2Learn.<\/p>\n
